When I began this blog I had a fear of using my children's real names. They have no control over what I write and I would hate for them to be embarrassed in the future if someone googles their name and all of my silly mother musings show up! I mean, really, what if one of them wants to run for office or is trying to get top government security clearance and MY blawging about their potty training keeps them from their goals!?! A little far fetched, maybe, but the internet is a tricky sticky place so in the mean time I will do my best to keep their real names out of it and so I must refer to them using my favorite pet names. (he he he !) The nicknames have blossomed this summer though and show NO signs of letting up anytime soon. Here are some of the originals and new ones, with explanations:
Pnut originated with his first photos, ultrasounds where he looked like a little peanut. This is still my favorite name for him though he usually gets called Bubba, Noodle, Doodlebug and Rooney (after the bar that caused his conception.)Add JumboDome and Topheavy to the list. ("Have you seen the size of that kids head? It's like sputnik!") Spud called him Brother for the longest time. His latest nickname is Nemo.
Spud originated the same way... instead of being peanut shaped in his first photos he looked like a little tater. Husband calls him Sped just to irritate me. His other most common name is "my baby" and he cracks me up when he refers to himself as "my baby" as in "My baby got hurt!" or "My baby is hungry." Melvin is another one after the church Christmas pageant got his name very wrong! His latest name though is Rock.
At dinner one night we were talking about what a great swimmer he was and he said "Yep, just like Nemo!" so we started to refer to him as Nemo. His little brother chimed in and said "Me Nemo too!" to which we all laughed and said "No way, your name is ROCK." (At the time he was still sinking like one every time he got in the pool.) From that point forward they have referred to each other as Nemo and Rock. "Hi Rock, whatcha doing?" "Nothing Nemo. What you doin?" When meeting new people Spud askes "What your name? Me Rock."
On "Sandbar Sundays" when Rock is wearing his life vest his name switches to Bob. If you call him Rock he corrects you loudly "NO me BOB!" We have compromised and just call him RockBob.
Today in the pool though RockBob was doing a great job swimming to the ladder... I think he may offically be swimming!! He was so proud that he proclaimed himself Baby Nemo.
I am sure there are MANY more names to come!!!
