Daddy Fun Week, Day Two

We woke up this morning and decided we wanted to take the boat out... just a few hours, maybe fish a little, hang out on the sand bar, head home when its nap time. We ended up staying out ALL day!! (And not because we ran out of gas or anything silly like that lol! For the record we did not need rescuing this time :o)
First stop was the creek openings next to the lower sand bar... caught a bunch of bait with the cast net while watching dolphins play (which NEVER gets old... like the Jupiter light house... I get excited and have to refrain from taking 30 photos even though I see it EVERY time we take the boat out.)

Just one photo of the dolphins, really, just one!
We saw a few red fish so we decided to drop lines there and see if we could get lucky and catch one (or ten)... we were lucky enough to have one of our lines chomped by something big with sharp teeth and on the other line we we caught this...
On to the sand bar where the boys dug and played and swam and Daddy continued to fish... next two catches were SHARKS (shocking, I know...I don't think we can go fishing without getting up close and personal with the sharks in the area.)

Spud is such a brave lil guy! He came running over wanting to pet the shark! He was really impressive at our next stop... we headed over to the other side of the May River to try and catch some shrimpies. (While we were out of gas and drifting on Tuesday we watched a couple of boats fill their coolers with shrimp from one spot... now it was our turn!) One of the boats from Tuesday was there again so we threw the net a few times (and caught nothing!) until they were done and we could slide on over to where they were. The other shrimping boat had 2 old guys, obviously locals, and they cruised by to check us out as they were leaving...probably to see if we were commercial. Once they saw the boys and realized this was just a family shrimping adventure and not competition they told us exactly where to go to get the "shrimp balls." Pretty cool! And it worked!!! We caught over three pounds of shrimp!!! BIG shrimp too! And Spud was the BEST deck hand! When daddy would empty the cast net onto the boat Spud would catch them all and put the in the live well. He had them by the hand full, flinging them over his shoulder, throwing the small ones back and keeping only the big ones... I know I am biased but one has to admit that is impressive behaviour for a two year old!!

After catching enough for dinner we headed over to our favorite sand bar. Did I mention that I was driving the boat??? Yes, I got my first official "lesson" today... I even put the boat on the trailer! Not as hard as it looks but then again not as easy as my husband makes it look... if that makes sense? I plan on practicing with our little boat a lot in the weeks to come!!

We ended up with a nice cooler full for dinner! Spud even helped pull the heads off of the shrimpies before we steamed them!!

After feeding the family and putting the tired boys to bed we escaped to play two rounds of put-put golf. Who needs Friday when you have a Thursday as awesome as this??
