Bird-Day Party

Spud is 6!!!
He celebrated with a Bird-Day Party!
We had met Capt. Andy, the red tailed hawk, at the farmers market back in December. When thinking of ways to celebrate Spud's birthday the idea came up, we should invite the birds! Lila Arnold, a retired 2nd grade teacher, is now the "Raptor Lady" and agreed to join us. She was AWESOME!!! We learned SO much!
Capt. Andy the Red Tailed Hawk.

Capt. Andy was found down on the highway after being hit by a car.  He had severe head trauma and lost his left eye.  He is non-releasable due to his permanent eye injury.

Breezy the Barred Owl.
We learned his call sounds like "Who cooks for you?"

Breezy fell from his nest over 60 feet above onto the bank of a river.  He was partially submerged and struggling to stand.  He received a broken leg and was also blind for over a month due to severe head trauma.  He has since regained some vision but can only see shadows due to retinal damage.  He is non-releasable due to his permanent eye injury.

He got to hold Odin the Eastern Screech Owl.

Odin was found in the road. Odin eventually lost his right eye due to head trauma.  He was named after the Norse god, Odin, who gave up an eye for wisdom.

Of course, there were cupcakes...

 Best Bird-Day EVER!!!
